Professor Martin Philbert is both a professor of Environmental Health Sciences & Associate Dean of the School of Public Health at the University of Michigan. His active research activities include experimental neuropathology, nitrocompound-induced encephalopathies, mitochondrial mechanisms in non-neuronal cell death, development of Nano-Optical Chemical Systems for in vivo physiology, and nanostructure-based imaging and treatment of tumours of malignant gliomas.

Amongst his professional affiliations, Prof. Philbert is a member and acting Chair of the National Research Council Committee for Review of The Federal Strategy to Address Environmental, Health, and Safety Research Needs for Engineered Nanoscale Materials, a member of the Food and Nutrition Board within the Institute of Medicine, as well as a member of the Institute of Medicine’s Roundtable on Environmental Health Sciences, Research, and Medicine.
