Invited Speaker: HARN/Carbon Nanomaterials Session

Dr Shvedova is a senior scientist within the Center for Disease Control and Prevention within the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), and an Adjunct Associate Professor Physiology and Pharmacology School of Medicine West Virginia University. She attained a BS from MV Lomonosov Moscow State University in 1970, and a Ph.D. in Physiology, Biophysics MV Lomonosov Moscow State University in 1975.

Dr. Shvedova’s specialty interests include mechanism(s) of chronic skin and lung diseases caused by industrial chemicals, vapors and particulates. Her studies have been focused on mechanisms of free radical reactions and inflammatory responses, molecular mechanisms of cell damage and apoptosis, oxidant injury, and cancer. Dr. Shvedova’s lab is investigating the toxicology of nanomaterials and mechanism(s) of adverse effects of nanoscale products, development of novel cellular and animal models, and development of biomarkers of exposures.

Dr. Shvedova has published over 100 scientific papers and book chapters in the toxicology field. She is member of advisory board committees for US Army, Air Force and NASA projects and PI of WP4 of the EU FW7 NANOMMUNE program project (2008-2011).
