Alison Elder

Alison Elder
Assistant Professor of Environmental Medicine, University of Rochester
Keynote Speaker: Metal Oxides

Asst. Prof. Alison Elder is based in the School of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Rochester, where she works within the Molecular Toxicology & Environmental Medicine Cluster.

Asst. Prof. Elder’s research interests focus on the toxicology of Airborne Ultrafine Particles (UFP) and Engineered Nanomaterials. Using detailed characterisation techniques and a combination of animal and cell culture models, the group in which she is based investigate the commonalities between UFP and nanomaterials, including the kinetics of tissue distribution following exposure, mechanisms of response related to oxidative stress, particle-protein interactions, and the physicochemical characteristics of the particles that determine response. Her laboratory also has specific projects focused on cardiovascular stability and neurodegeneration following exposures to UFPs and nanomaterials.

Asst. Prof. Elder gained her B.S. from Chatham College in 1992, and her Ph.D. in 1997 from the University of California, Irvine.
